Kansas Grain and Feed Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Gantz of D.E. Bondurant Grain Company in Ness City. Gantz served as chairman (president) of the association from 1962-64 and was on the board of directors from 1959 - 1964. Gantz also won the Sunflower Award, the highest honor KGFA bestows upon a member in 2007. The speech read for Gantz' Sunflower Award presentation is below. Robert Lee “Bob” Read, former owner of Cherryvale Grain Co., Cherryvale, KS, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020. Bob was born in Cherryvale, KS on February 26, 1926 to Lewis F and Luella Mae (Hugo) Read. Upon graduation from Cherryvale High School in 1944 he entered the U.S. Army. In 1946 he returned to Cherryvale and started working for Cherryvale Grain, which he purchased in 1959 and sold in 1995, retiring to Grove, OK. This week, Governor Laura Kelly signed Executive order No. 20-57, extending conditional and temporary relief from certain motor carrier rules and regulations. The rule is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on August 14, 2020 or until the statewide State of Disaster Emergency extended by House Bill 2016 expires, whichever is earlier. This week, Governor Kelly issued Drought Declarations for Kansas counties with Executive Order #20-54.  The declaration includes 74 out of 105 counties either in an emergency, warning or watch status. “Unfortunately, the majority of the state of Kansas has been considered in drought or abnormally dry conditions for the past several weeks, which has led to high risk of fire hazard,” said Governor Kelly. “This declaration will allow affected communities to access the water they need. As announced on Monday, Governor Laura Kelly has signed Executive Order No. 20-52 requiring face masks to be worn in public. Each Kansas county has the authority to revoke the order. Kansas Grain and Feed Association sent a letter of support regarding reauthorization of the Grain Standards Act (USGSA) to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan).
