The Economic Development and Connectivity grant program is a new COVID response program that will use $60 million from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide grants to small businesses and nonprofits that have incurred losses greater than 25% of revenues during the COVID pandemic, among other eligible categories. The program is being administered by the state's Strengthening People and Revitalizing Kansas (SPARK) task force and the Kansas Dept. of Commerce. Kansas Grain and Feed Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Gantz of D.E. Bondurant Grain Company in Ness City. Gantz served as chairman (president) of the association from 1962-64 and was on the board of directors from 1959 - 1964. Robert Lee “Bob” Read, former owner of Cherryvale Grain Co., Cherryvale, KS, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020. Bob was born in Cherryvale, KS on February 26, 1926 to Lewis F and Luella Mae (Hugo) Read. Upon graduation from Cherryvale High School in 1944 he entered the U.S. Army. In 1946 he returned to Cherryvale and started working for Cherryvale Grain, which he purchased in 1959 and sold in 1995, retiring to Grove, OK. As announced on Monday, Governor Laura Kelly has signed Executive Order No. 20-52 requiring face masks to be worn in public. Each Kansas county has the authority to revoke the order. Kansas Grain and Feed Association sent a letter of support regarding reauthorization of the Grain Standards Act (USGSA) to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan).
